Such a great nuanced article about overtourism in Barcelona with so many different perspectives! I loved this, too -- a reminder to slow down and notice and not just through our phone lenses or through the filter of hashtags. Have you found in your unplugged traveling that it’s also getting harder to be spontaneous in this age of travel? Beyond the phenomenon of monuments/museums you can only visit if booked online in advance, I’m finding it can also be harder to find a place to eat if not booked in advance.
As inveterate early risers when we travel to enjoy the most overtouristed places as they should be, your ending reslly resonated, Lisa. Not that we want to encourage this!
Early mornings--especially early Sunday mornings--are the best! I love the experience of walking through streets that you know will be nearly impassable in a matter of hours but that are, for the moment, yours alone.
Love your photos of the Greeting! Clearly it is overly full of tourists, but the sunset on the tiles and the reflections are stunning. It seems like you found beauty even among the crowds

As always, your writing is beautiful and yes, transporting. And those women singing ... how wonderful - xoD
Thank you so much, Dorie!

The part about the singing women made me tear up.

You mean it wasn’t on your Zadar?
Ha!
